Aromatherapy Massage
Please note: I am so busy that my aromatherapy appointment slots are full, and I am not taking on any new aromatherapy clients at present, although I am still running my very popular massage courses. Aromatherapy is the term used to describe the therapeutic use of essential oils. They can be used in a burner, in a bath or added to a carrier oil and massaged into the skin.
A therapeutic massage with essential oils can help to relax or invigorate depending which oils are chosen.
By adding an oil like Lavender or Tea Tree to massage oil during a relaxing back massage it becomes a boost to the immune system at the same time. A head massage using Rosemary can make one more alert, and can be useful when needing to focus or study. A foot massage using a potent sedating oil like Valerian can aid sleep.
Aromatherapy is the perfect holistic therapy to aid relaxation and combat stress: combining massage and bodywork with therapeutic oils chosen by the therapist.
Whether you view aromatherapy as an alternative therapy or a complementary therapy it is definitely an holistic therapy as it works on the body, mind and spirit. Whether it is used as in conjunction with a Swedish massage or remedial massage, the benefits of aromatherapy will be felt by the receiver long after the massage is finished as aromatherapy oils take about 4-6 hours to be fully absorbed through the skin into the blood stream.
Aromatherapy is used extensively in Ayurvedic massage – so in India they have been benefiting from the therapeutic effect of essential oils for hundreds of years. As part of the massage tuition course each person takes home their own personalised therapeutic blend of essential oils in a massage oil of their choice.
